“Haunted” Mansion in Mystic Holds “Haunted” Tours for Charity
(Mystic, CT – October 24, 2008) --- On
Thursday, October 30, Whitehall Mansion in Mystic will be transformed into
“The Haunted Mansion” in order to raise funds for charity. The property will
be decorated to celebrate Halloween as well as honor the mansion’s “haunted”
history. Tickets will be on sale for tours of the mansion, and all proceeds
will be donated to TVCCA of New London. The 237-year old Whitehall Mansion,
located at 42 Whitehall Avenue in Mystic, is well-known in the community for
its reported “paranormal activity”, and was recently featured on WCVB-TV’s
award-winning nightly newsmagazine, Chronicle, in Boston.
Whitehall Mansion was built in 1771 by Groton minister Dr. Dudley
Woodbridge. The mansion was restored by the Stonington Historical Society in
1970, and in 1996 Waterford Hotel Group and Wolman Construction turned it
into a 5-room historical inn, which it continues to operate as today. Over
the years, guests of the mansion have reported strange sounds and sightings
throughout the rooms of the mansion. Lucy, Dr. Dudley’s daughter, is said to
be the “main” ghost in the house.
Whitehall Mansion is currently featured on the Haunted Eastern CT Tour, led
by members of the Cosmic Society of Paranormal Investigation in Ansonia. The
mansion has also been investigated numerous times throughout the years by
local “ghost hunters” and other independent paranormal investigators, who
have confirmed reports of paranormal activity.
“The Haunted Mansion” will run from 4pm to 8pm. Admission is $5.00 per adult
and $2.00 per child. In addition to tours of the property, the mansion will
hold a bake sale and other Halloween activities. All proceeds will be
donated to TVCCA of New London, on behalf of Whitehall Mansion and the
Waterford Group Charitable Foundation.
