LOCAL HOTEL’S “BRIGHT IDEA” GENERATES ENERGY CONSERVATION
Homewood Suites by Hilton in Ithaca Takes Steps to Protect Local Community

Ithaca, NY – February 13, 2008 --- In a continued effort to reduce energy consumption and operate in a more environmentally friendly way, the Homewood Suites by Hilton in Ithaca, NY has replaced 1,300 light bulbs throughout the hotel. All light bulbs in each of the 91 suites and the hotel’s public spaces recently have been replaced with Energy Star® qualified compact fluorescent bulbs. By utilizing a “green” approach, the hotel will help protect land, air and water resources in the local Ithaca community.

In the guestrooms and public spaces, the hotel has taken many steps to conserve energy, including the installation of intuitive programmable energy saving thermostats throughout the hotel. Only Energy Star® appliances are used in each suite, as well as water conserving toilets and shower heads. According to data provided by Energy Star®, because of these measures the Homewood Suites Ithaca will generate approximately 5% less greenhouse gas emissions per suite, 1/3 less carbon dioxide, and will use approximately 35% less energy. Additionally, the hotel has begun a linen conservation program, will only purchase environmentally friendly cleaning products, and is committed to a recycling program.
