WOLMAN CONSTRUCTION ANNOUNCED AS TOP AWARD WINNER BY
HOME BUILDERS ASSOCIATION OF CONNECTICUT, INC.
"Best New Commercial"
"Best Residential Remodeling $750,000 - $1 Million"
"The Ultimate Remodel for Home Enjoyment"
Waterford, CT (December
16, 2001) --- Wolman Construction, a locally based general contractor
and construction manager, received top honors at the Home Builders Association
of Connecticut Awards Dinner held recently at the Aqua Turf Country
Club in Southington, Connecticut. Industry peers located throughout
the State of Connecticut selected award recipients.
Wolman Construction won in
the category of Best New Commercial for the construction of the
285-room Mystic Marriott Hotel and Spa in Groton, which opened in June
2001. Faced with design, site, and environmental challenges in building
the new Mystic Marriott Hotel and Spa, Wolman Construction and its sub-contractors
sought out design and construction solutions designed to maximize flexibility,
efficiency, and timeliness. Value engineering saved money and ensured
quick construction through the use of Dryvit exteriors that allowed
for architectural detailing called for in the plans, and through a decision
to use a staggered-truss steel structural system. In June, Wolman was
recognized by EPA New England and New England Waterworks Association
for their innovative and corporate efforts to protect Groton's Poheganut
Reservoir. The $47 million hotel includes 25,000 square feet of meeting
and pre-function space including two ballrooms, Octagon restaurant,
a bar and lounge, a Starbucks Coffee Bar, a fitness center, and the
region's first Elizabeth Arden Red Door Spa.
Wolman Construction also was
honored in the categories of Best Residential Remodeling $750,000
- $1 Million, for the remodeling of a New London residence, and
The Ultimate Remodel for Home Enjoyment, for the remodeling of
a Waterford residence. Challenges of the New London renovation project
included the removal of the foundation wall to allow for installation
of a stair tower and elevator, while at the same time re-supporting
the existing structure. Additionally, a large portion of the roof was
removed in order to incorporate a third floor bedroom and bathroom with
ocean views. The Waterford remodeling project included the addition
of a 60-foot regulation lap pool, spa, gym, steam shower, and bath.
The entire addition, with radiant floor heat, is designed with an emphasis
on acoustics.
Established in 1988, Wolman
Construction, under the direction of President Mark Wolman, has excelled
in both commercial and custom residential construction based on a commitment
to open, "no surprises" client communication, accessibility
to company management and outstanding cost control. Current commercial
projects for the Waterford-based firm include the 94-suite Residence
Inn by Marriott in Southington, and an addition to the YMCA in Westbrook.
